Who should join?
This Alliance is for local groups that wish to support AARO's efforts
on behalf of the millions of overseas Americans around the world. We welcome existing groups ("Affiliates") and will help new groups ("Chapters") start within the Alliance.
What is AARO?The Association of Americans Resident Overseas (AARO), headquartered in
Paris, has been serving Americans living abroad for over thirty years.
AARO
is a volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan organization representing the interests
of over 6 million Americans living abroad. AARO is involved in a
broad range of issues -- from voting to citizenship to taxation.
The organization updates its members on its issues and activities through its
quarterly newsletter, bimonthly e-mail bulletins, periodic seminars and
other events.
AARO
also participates in Overseas Americans Week, a week of lobbying in
Washington, D.C., along with its sister organizations American Citizens
Abroad (ACA) and the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas
(FAWCO).
Do local groups in the Alliance have a common meeting format?
No. All that we ask is that Chapters and Affiliates hold at least one event per quarter
dealing with
AARO and/or its issues. It may be a speaker event or issue-related event, but may
of course also have a social component.
What are AARO's objectives? The purpose of AARO is to represent the interests of the 6 million overseas Americans on issues such as taxation, citizenship transmission and voting. For more information on our specific position statements, visit
