We’ve got the National ID Card, aka the Real ID Act of 2005, on the run here in California and around the country.  In the next few weeks, we have a chance to score a decisive victory for Freedom!

Recently, the director of the California Department of Motor Vehicles wrote a letter to Michael Chertoff of DHS and told him that California has requested an extension NOT to buy time to comply with Real ID but rather to take under consideration whether or not it WILL comply at all.  On the surface, it may appear to be a small matter, but it in fact occasioned a shift on the part of DHS and they have now apparently backed off their “deadline for compliance” of May 11th.

Hearings on the State Assembly Resolution to oppose the implementation of Real ID in California, AJR 51, have been set for April 14th at 1:30 PM at the State Capitol in Sacramento, Room 4202.

Please gather as many petition signatures as possible between now and then (there will be a mailing address for your petitions provided soon).  And please plan on being there in the auditorium during the public hearing before the Assembly Committee on Transportation on April 14th.  Let’s pack the house with a thousand friends of Freedom who will demonstrate with their presence that we are serious about defending our Constitutional rights!

If AJR 51 gets through the Committee, it is expected to go to a floor vote before the full Assembly in late May, and then on to the Senate.
