I suggest, there are many small businesses within this network that needs an affordable solution to get their name out there to the network. While Google's and Yahoo's can come handy paying bills; the pure essence of an advertiser is to get their name out and sure the big boys don't need that. People that need to get their name out are small businesses, startups, etc.
my 3 cents...

Hi Robert -- and hello Alliance!
I've been waiting for Meetup to refine their Alliance offering and now that they've finally done so, I think your suggestion can see the light of day. To date, as everyone has probably noticed, I've been letting this alliance grow organically. Pretty cool we've got ~50,000 members total (spanning 32 groups) with zero promotion, huh?
I'm on the same page as you ... it's time to sell this network to sponsors.
The next steps are to carve out deliverables and identify what each group is worth to a sponsor. We'll need to do an audit of sort to filter out "groups" in the alliance who signed up but have no interest in participating. I'll be sending a notice around to everyone requesting more information and to gauge interest in taking on sponsors.... Stay tuned.
Have you put any more thought into the calculation based on members and attendance?
Anyone else out there like to chime in on this?
Thanks for kicking off the discussion, Robert!
Cheers,

To all good morning
I am surprised this was not the first post for the alliance and if it was and i missed it sorry. I run the boulder denver new tech meetup and we currently have a few local sponsors, but I think it is time we brought in a few larger ones.
The idea: Someone in the alliance sellls ads to 1 or more international sponsors (google, microsoft, nokia, etc..). Each local group then includes sponsor data in emails, the site and other meeting materials. The alliance members split the funding based on some calculation of members and attendence.
